A total of 257 families residing in one of the most remote parts of Rapu-Rapu, Albay, now have access to clean and sustainable electricity through a solar electrification project led by Ako Bicol Partylist and the National Electrification Administration (NEA).

The initiative, made possible through the partnership of NEA, Albay Electric Cooperative (ALECO), and with the support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, aims to deliver uninterrupted, safe, and renewable energy to long-neglected communities.

Ako Bicol Representative Elizaldy Co described the solar power initiative as a beacon of hope and progress for families who have lived without electricity for decades.

Co emphasized that what was once a dream has now become a reality, bringing an end to the hardship and darkness experienced by residents in these far-flung areas.

The lawmaker, who proposed the project during his tenure as Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, stressed that solar energy not only brings light but also restores dignity and instills hope among underserved Filipinos.

Each household received a complete Solar Home System, including a solar panel, four light bulbs, a cellphone charging port, a transistor radio, battery storage, and an inverter—providing not just illumination, but comfort and security.

A minimal fee of ₱7 per day is charged for maintenance to ensure long-term service, while installation and equipment were provided free of charge.

For beneficiaries like 23-year-old online teacher Emy Rose Berba and 80-year-old island resident Loreta Bola, the solar panel represents more than electricity—it symbolizes transformation and empowerment.

In addition, 50 more households in Sitio Dinagsaan, Brgy. Hacienda, San Miguel Island, Tabaco City, also received solar home units, demonstrating the project’s wide coverage and strong commitment to inclusive development.

In line with President Marcos’ vision for 100% electrification by the end of his term, Rep. Co and the Ako Bicol Partylist reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring that no Filipino is left behind in the pursuit of equitable access to energy and national progress.
