The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) has called on Filipinos abroad and their global networks to take interest in the new Philippines Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) program.

Under Executive Order No. 86 signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on April 24, the DNV allows foreign nationals and returning Filipinos working remotely for overseas clients or employers to enter and temporarily stay in the Philippines using digital technology.

CFO Chairperson and Secretary Dante Ang II described the initiative as a strategic move to align the country with the growing global trend of location-independent work.

According to the World Economic Forum, the Philippines ranked seventh among the fastest-growing remote work hubs in 2023.

Ang noted that support from global Filipinos for the Philippines Digital Nomad Visa could strengthen their connection with the homeland while also creating new opportunities for local communities.

To qualify for the DNV, applicants must be at least 18 years old, provide proof of remote work using digital tools, have a stable income from outside the Philippines, possess health insurance valid for the visa duration, and have no criminal record.

Additionally, applicants must be citizens of countries offering DNVs to Filipinos, have access to a Philippine foreign service post, pose no national security threat, and must not be employed within the Philippines.

Qualified foreign nationals may stay in the country for up to one year, renewable for another year, with multiple entry privileges during the visa’s validity.

The CFO also emphasized that the new executive order reinforces the importance of Republic Act 9225, or the Philippine Dual Citizenship Law, which allows former natural-born Filipinos to reacquire citizenship without renouncing their foreign one.

This provision grants dual citizens the right to stay in the country long-term and enjoy full civil, economic, and political rights.
