The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) assured that it is fully prepared to implement any agreement reached concerning the proposed Code of Conduct in the West Philippine Sea.
Philippine Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, confirmed the AFP’s readiness to carry out terms of the COC as soon as it is finalized, highlighting the military’s supportive role in regional peacekeeping.
The Code of Conduct aims to establish formal rules among claimant states—including the Philippines and China—to reduce tensions and uphold peace in the disputed maritime region.
Trinidad emphasized that the AFP continues to align its operations with the outcomes of ongoing diplomatic discussions being advanced through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
During the same press briefing, he also discussed the anticipated deployment of a Royal Navy aircraft carrier strike group to the Indo-Pacific region, clarifying that a similar UK mission occurred in Philippine waters back in 2021.
The official further disclosed that the AFP has submitted its formal position and request for compensation related to equipment damages sustained during maritime confrontations, particularly those encountered in rotation and resupply (RORE) missions.
Trinidad noted that further details on the compensation request should be addressed by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
