The recent directive by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for all Cabinet members to submit their courtesy resignations is a leadership necessity aimed at improving governance, according to political analyst Atty. Edward Chico.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Atty. Chico emphasized that the move is intended to recalibrate the Cabinet and reassess the direction of the current administration to enhance leadership efficiency.
He explained that President Marcos, elected in 2022 alongside Vice President Sara Duterte, now faces internal division between their respective camps, prompting the need to evaluate his appointees and ensure alignment with his governance goals.
Chico pointed out that while political context is inevitable, the reorganization is more of an administrative necessity than a strategy, designed to verify that all officials are fulfilling their duties according to the president’s roadmap.
The analyst also noted that the Cabinet shakeup may impact President Marcos’ trust and popularity ratings, which have reportedly declined in recent months.
Chico added that the president’s action could be a proactive measure to stabilize his administration amid decreasing public trust and mounting political friction.
He warned that any sign of weak leadership could be exploited by critics, especially in light of the well-known tensions between the Marcos and Duterte factions.
