Calls for Cabinet Resignation Show Marcos Admin in Panic Mode, Says Political Lawyer

The recent move of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to ask for the courtesy resignations of his Cabinet members is a clear sign the administration is in panic mode, according to political lawyer and analyst Atty. James Reserva.

Reserva explained that while the President framed the mass resignation call as part of a routine “recalibration,” it was largely triggered by poor Cabinet performance during the first half of his term, which reflected in the recent elections as a rejection of his leadership.

He noted that the President sought to evaluate his officials for potential involvement in corruption and overall ineffectiveness in office.

However, Reserva also pointed out a deeper political motivation, saying the administration was pressured by the unexpected popularity of the opposition bloc, especially those aligned with the Dutertes, who were initially seen as underdogs.

As a result, the administration is now reshuffling its leadership in an attempt to rebrand and deliver the public services that Filipinos have long demanded, despite heavy government aid already distributed.

The failed impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte, followed by the controversial arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, contributed to a backlash against the administration, further intensifying the urgency of these political maneuvers.

Reserva emphasized that the Duterte camp has gained momentum, especially after VP Sara’s warning of a “bloodbath” during her impeachment trial, prompting radical adjustments from Malacañang.
