President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially declared June 6, 2025, a regular holiday across the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

The declaration was made through Proclamation No. 911, which was signed by the President on May 21, 2025.

According to the proclamation, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) recommended declaring June 6, a Friday, as a national holiday based on the 1446 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.

Eid’l Adha is one of the two most significant holidays in the Muslim calendar, the other being Eid’l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

During Eid’l Adha, Muslims commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command, by ritually slaughtering animals such as sheep, goats, cows, or camels.

The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts: one-third for the family, one-third for relatives and friends, and one-third for the poor and needy.

In addition to the animal sacrifice, Muslims celebrate Eid’l Adha with prayers in mosques, acts of charity, and gatherings with family and community.

The proclamation recognizes the cultural and religious significance of the holiday and allows Filipino Muslims to fully observe and celebrate this important event.
