The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) expressed full support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for the immediate courtesy resignation of his Cabinet secretaries.

In a statement released today and signed by LMP National President JB Bernos, the group backed the President’s move while calling for stronger collaboration between national agencies and local government units.

The LMP urged the President to consider the extent of each department’s engagement with municipal governments over the past three years as part of the ongoing Cabinet performance review.

The group emphasized the importance of strengthening the alliance between the national and local governments to improve governance across the country.

While Cabinet members began submitting their resignations starting May 22, the LMP encouraged the Marcos administration to retain those who have demonstrated strong performance, particularly those whose departments have effectively served local governments.

The LMP stated that departments that performed well are likely led by competent and empathetic secretaries—those who are grounded and responsive—qualities that merit consideration for continued tenure.

Despite the sensitive nature of the review process, the group expressed confidence in the administration’s efforts, believing it will ultimately enhance governance under President Marcos’ leadership.
