COMELEC’s Slow Decisions Impact Voter’s Will, Says Former IBP Chief

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is being criticized for its slow pace in resolving disqualification cases, which allegedly affects the electorate’s ability to choose their rightful leaders.

This was asserted by former Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) President Atty. Domingo Egon Cayosa in an interview with Bombo Radyo Cauayan, following COMELEC’s suspension of the proclamation of certain candidates and party-list groups facing unresolved disqualification cases.

Cayosa questioned why the commission has yet to issue decisions on long-pending cases even after the elections have concluded.

He emphasized that the COMELEC should have resolved these issues before the polls to avoid suspensions that may appear politically motivated.

While legal remedies such as filing a petition for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) are available to affected candidates, Cayosa noted that the process is time-consuming and complex.

He stressed that election cases are not ordinary matters and require prompt resolution to ensure the integrity of the vote and uphold public trust in the electoral process.
