Landerneau, a small town in Brittany, France, has officially been recognized as the Smurf Capital of the World after setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Smurfs.
On May 19, a total of 3,076 individuals gathered in full Smurf costumes to break the previous record of 2,762 held by Germany since 2019.
It was Landerneau’s third attempt at the record, and after years of dreaming and preparation, the community finally succeeded.
This colorful achievement was made possible with the support of Paramount Pictures, as part of the promotional campaign for the upcoming Smurfs movie set to release on July 18.
Residents of Landerneau came together in force, transforming the town into a sea of blue during the record-breaking event.
The Smurfs, or “Les Schtroumpfs” in French, were created by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford in 1958 and have since become global pop culture icons through comics, cartoons, and films.
Now, with this joyful feat, Landerneau proudly holds the title of the world’s official Smurf capital.
