Several roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ports in the Visayas have begun adjusting their operations to accommodate large cargo trucks affected by the emergency repairs on the San Juanico Bridge.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) earlier recommended that cargo trucks and buses utilize RoRo routes while the iconic bridge undergoes extensive rehabilitation, with access currently limited to vehicles weighing under three tons.

According to the OCD, many RoRo ports have expressed readiness to assist in diverting cargo truck traffic during the repair period.

One such example is the Amandayehan Port in Basey, Samar, which immediately underwent round-the-clock upgrades to accommodate incoming cargo trucks and other heavy vehicles expected to increase in volume.

The OCD also reported that other ports have similarly indicated their willingness to support and handle the overflow of affected vehicles.
