A partnership between the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) has made P20 rice accessible to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families as part of a broader government initiative.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the move supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s promise to make rice affordable and high-quality for Filipino families while ensuring fair income for local farmers.

Cacdac emphasized that the program reflects the President’s deep appreciation for OFWs, who are considered the modern heroes of the administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” agenda.

The affordable rice will be available at the Kadiwa ng Pangulo outlet located at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City.

The Kadiwa program, spearheaded by the DA, aims to directly connect consumers with farmers, fishers, and micro-enterprises to reduce layers in the supply chain, which often inflate prices, and promote a more inclusive and equitable food distribution system.

Cacdac encouraged consumers to follow purchasing guidelines to ensure that more families can benefit from the low-cost rice initiative.

Meanwhile, the DMW is also collaborating with the DA to assist OFWs and their families in exploring agribusiness opportunities through the national reintegration program.

This includes technical support and guidance for OFWs interested in becoming agri-preneurs.

The agriculture sector is seen as a viable and promising investment opportunity for OFWs, and the DMW-DA partnership seeks to promote agribusiness as a sustainable reintegration pathway.
