The senator called on authorities in Vancouver, Canada, to launch a full investigation into the incident and to ensure that justice is swiftly delivered to the victims and their grieving families.

In his official statement, Lapid extended heartfelt condolences to those who lost loved ones, lamenting that at least eleven Filipinos were killed in the incident that took place during a festival meant to honor a Filipino national hero.

He urged the public to join in praying for the victims and for the safety of Filipinos overseas, expressing hope that such a heartbreaking tragedy will never be repeated.

The Lapu-Lapu Festival in Vancouver was held to commemorate Datu Lapu-Lapu, the first Filipino hero who resisted foreign conquest, and a figure that Lapid himself brought to life on screen as director of the historical action film Lapu-Lapu.
