The Philippine National Police (PNP) has taken into custody three active police officers involved in the robbery of a businessman in Balagtas, Bulacan.
In an ambush interview at Camp Crame, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo revealed that they have identified seven police officers as suspects in the crime, with a manhunt currently underway for the four still unidentified.
The PNP is awaiting the resolution from the prosecutor’s office as they have already submitted a complaint and are assessing whether the evidence is sufficient for prosecution.
Earlier reports indicated that CCTV footage captured the suspects leaving the victim’s residence carrying boxes allegedly containing P30 million in cash stolen from two of the businessman’s homes.
The PNP is also investigating how the suspects, who were assigned to different units, were able to form a group to execute the crime.
Additionally, it was discovered that one of the three arrested officers is an acquaintance of the businessman, raising the possibility that he was the mastermind behind the robbery.
The agency expressed regret that despite repeated reminders to the police force to reform and uphold their service, incidents like this continue to occur.
According to Fajardo, the PNP is committed to ensuring that anyone within their ranks found involved in corruption or any crime will be held accountable.
