Teodoro Meets Indonesian Defense Minister to Boost Defense and Climate Cooperation

Department of National Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro warmly welcomed his Indonesian counterpart as both officials engaged in talks centered on enhancing collaboration between the Philippines and Indonesia’s armed forces.

Teodoro said the meeting focused on fortifying defense industry cooperation, promoting ASEAN solidarity, and sustaining trilateral talks involving Malaysia to ensure regional stability.

A key highlight of the meeting was the signing of an agreement aimed at jointly addressing mutual challenges, including the impacts of climate change, which both nations face.

Teodoro announced the formation of a joint climate change response and enhancement initiative to strategize and respond more effectively to climate-induced threats.

He emphasized the importance of combining disaster response elements from both countries to create a faster and more effective regional disaster response mechanism.

The two defense leaders also discussed sustaining peacekeeping efforts, expressing commitment to respond to any future calls for joint participation in peace initiatives.

Teodoro underscored the significance of international engagements in strengthening coordination with global partners, ensuring better protection for peacekeepers.

He also noted the strategic importance of the Indonesian minister’s visit in deepening the long-standing alliance between the Philippines and Indonesia.
