Four family members tragically died after being electrocuted and drowned in a well in Barangay Tiayon, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

According to police investigation, one of the victims entered the 28-foot-deep well to retrieve an old hammer and chisel but was electrocuted after losing grip on the rope he was holding.

His family members attempted to rescue him, but all three were also overcome and drowned in the process.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), which recovered the bodies, reported finding a submerged water pump at the bottom of the well.

The BFP said it is possible that a ground fault in the pump caused the electrocution.

Authorities are now urging communities to ensure the safety of electrical installations, especially those used near water sources.
