The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has reassured the public that the issuance of National IDs will continue despite the recent termination of its contract with the supplier.

In a statement, the PSA confirmed that they are taking necessary steps to ensure the ongoing distribution of national IDs, maintaining their commitment to delivering a secure and reliable system for all registered citizens.

The PSA has also advised the public to use the digital version of the national ID, which can be downloaded from their website and used while waiting for the physical ID card.

The implementation of the National ID System, officially known as the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), began in 2018 under Republic Act No. 11055. The goal was to create a unified and streamlined ID system that would simplify public and private transactions, improve access to government services, and enhance the delivery of social services. Despite these benefits, the rollout has faced significant challenges, including delays and logistical issues.

Earlier, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) terminated its contract with AllCard Inc., the supplier responsible for producing the physical ID cards, due to the company’s failure to meet its obligations. This resulted in delays in the production and distribution of the national IDs.

Despite these setbacks, the PSA has remained committed to ensuring that every Filipino receives their National ID, which is essential for accessing various government services and benefits.
