MILAN, Italy — The Philippine Consulate General in Milan has issued a stern warning to Filipinos in the city following complaints from local residents about disorderly behavior and misuse of public spaces, particularly at Parco Bande Nere.

According to reports received by the consulate, several Filipinos were allegedly gambling, cooking and selling food, leaving garbage, and urinating in public at the park.

Some were also described as being rowdy, raising concerns among residents of the area.

In response, the consulate appealed to the Filipino community to respect local rules and regulations, reminding them that such behavior could lead to arrest and damage the image of Filipinos abroad.

“Promoting better understanding between our kababayan and their host communities is a vital responsibility of our embassies and consulates,” the consulate stated.

Philippine Consul General Elmer Cato met with residents around Parco Bande Nere at the Comune di Milano in a meeting facilitated by Councilor Enrico Marcora.

Cato listened to grievances regarding the use of the park, which has become a popular gathering spot for Filipinos and other expat groups.

The consulate acknowledged the legitimacy of the residents’ concerns and assured them that these would be communicated to the Filipino community.

In light of the issues raised, the Polizia Locale (local police) is expected to implement stricter measures to enforce park regulations and penalize violators.

The consulate urged Filipinos to be mindful of their conduct in public spaces and to help uphold the good reputation of the Filipino community in Italy.
