Malacañang has reassured the public that there is no immediate cause for concern over a potential invasion of Taiwan, despite China’s ongoing military drills near Taipei.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro stated that the public has “nothing to worry about” even as Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. urged troops to prepare for any developments that could affect the country.

Castro emphasized that it is appropriate for Brawner to remind both soldiers and the public about the situation.

She also underscored the government’s responsibility to be prepared for all possible contingencies related to the issue.

The Palace has delegated further details regarding contingency measures, particularly the potential repatriation of Filipinos in Taiwan, to the Department of National Defense (DND) and the AFP.

Castro assured that should an invasion occur, the Philippine government is ready to assist and evacuate affected Filipinos.
