The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Region 2 has warned of possible debris from a Chinese rocket falling into the waters off Cagayan.

According to Mia Edcel Carbonel, information officer of OCD Region 2, the Philippine Space Agency and the Cagayan Valley Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council identified potential drop zones for debris from China’s Long March 7A rocket.

The debris is expected to fall in the waters near Dalupiri Island, Camiguin Norte in Calayan, Santa Ana in Cagayan, and Burgos in Ilocos Norte.

Carbonel advised fishermen and residents in these areas not to approach or collect any debris found in the waters but to immediately report it to authorities, as it may contain toxic substances like rocket fuel.

While the debris is not expected to fall in populated areas, the OCD warned that it could pose risks to maritime traffic, including ships, fishing boats, and aircraft passing through the region.

The agency also noted the possibility that some debris could drift toward nearby shorelines.
