THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued a reminder to private sector employers to comply with wage payment rules for the four regular holidays and one special non-working day in April, ensuring proper compensation for workers.

In Labor Advisory No. 04, series of 2025, DOLE outlined wage guidelines for the following holidays: Eid’l Fitr on April 1, Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9, Maundy Thursday on April 17, Good Friday on April 18, and Black Saturday on April 19, the latter designated as a special non-working day under Proclamation No. 839.

Under the guidelines, employees who do not report for duty on a regular holiday must still receive their full daily wage, provided they were present or on paid leave on the preceding workday.

Those required to work on these holidays are entitled to 200 percent of their daily wage for the first eight hours.

For employees working beyond eight hours on a holiday, overtime work must be compensated with an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate.

Workers whose rest days coincide with a regular holiday and are required to work must receive an extra 30 percent premium on top of their double pay.

For Black Saturday, a special non-working day, the “no work, no pay” policy applies unless an existing company policy or a collective bargaining agreement states otherwise.

Employees reporting for work on this day must receive an additional 30 percent of their basic wage for the first eight hours.

DOLE urged employers to strictly adhere to the advisory, emphasizing that compliance with wage rules upholds workers’ rights, prevents labor disputes, and ensures fair compensation during the holidays.
