Senator Imee Marcos has withdrawn from the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, an alliance endorsed by her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

In a statement, Marcos said she could not campaign or stand on the same stage with other members of the alliance.

She announced that in the coming days, she would disclose her initial findings, which, according to her, reveal that the Marcos administration has taken steps that contradict her principles and beliefs.

During the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearing on March 20, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla invoked executive privilege when asked to explain the details of a supposed meeting between President Marcos and his Cabinet before the arrest of Duterte.

Jonvic Remulla clarified that the meeting was held only to discuss rumors about Duterte’s arrest, not to plan it.

Marcos insisted that government representatives at the Senate hearing appeared to be concealing important facts.

She further claimed that the blatant cover-up of wrongdoing only strengthened suspicions that the Constitution may have been violated, and that national sovereignty was compromised in Duterte’s arrest.

Following this, Imee Marcos reaffirmed her stance as an independent politician, consistent with her position since the election period began.
