Malacañang Dismisses VP Sara’s Concerns on Duterte’s Safety, Rejects Ninoy Aquino Comparison

Malacañang has dismissed Vice President Sara Duterte’s concerns over an alleged threat to the life of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

The Palace questioned VP Duterte’s statement suggesting that her father might face the same fate as the assassinated Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. if he returns to the Philippines.

According to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, Duterte cannot be compared to Aquino because the late senator had no record of mass murder or crimes against humanity.

Castro further pointed out that based on Duterte’s past speeches, he never likened himself to Ninoy Aquino but rather to Adolf Hitler, once saying, “Kung may Hitler ang Germany, may Duterte ang Pilipinas.” (If Germany has Hitler, the Philippines has Duterte.)

Castro also questioned where VP Sara was drawing the claim that there were threats to the former president’s life.

She noted that even the supposed threats against the Vice President herself have yet to be formally reported to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) or the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Castro stressed that before making such statements, there must be concrete evidence to support the claims.

In the end, Malacañang reiterated that there is no truth to the alleged threats against former President Duterte’s life.
