A motorcycle-SUV collision in Koronadal claimed the life of an 18-year-old rider and left his 16-year-old passenger injured in an accident that occurred around 8:30 PM along National Road, Purok Tolentino, Barangay Morales, Koronadal City.
Police Staff Sergeant Fely A. Bascon, Traffic Investigator of Koronadal, confirmed the incident in an interview with Bombo Radyo Koronadal.
According to police investigations, the crash involved a Toyota Avanza driven by Elias S. Segura Jr., a 60-year-old resident of Kalawag 1, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, and a Yamaha STX 125 motorcycle without a license plate, operated by an 18-year-old rider known as “Rey,” a resident of Bulolmala, Tupi, South Cotabato. His 16-year-old passenger was a resident of Purok Tolentino, Barangay Morales.
Initial findings revealed that Segura was heading toward Tantangan, South Cotabato when the motorcycle suddenly collided with his vehicle. Authorities determined that the motorcycle veered into the SUV’s lane, causing the fatal crash.
Further investigations showed that the motorcycle was undergoing a road test from Tantangan and that neither rider was wearing a helmet.
Emergency responders rushed both minors to the hospital, where the motorcycle driver was declared dead on arrival, while the passenger remains under medical care.
Both vehicles sustained undetermined damages, while authorities continue to urge motorists to prioritize road safety and adhere to traffic laws to prevent future tragedies.
