Zelenskyy: U.S. Support Essential for Diplomacy to End War with Russia

UKRAINIAN President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reaffirmed Kyiv’s commitment to diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the ongoing war with Russia, emphasizing on Monday that U.S. support remains crucial in achieving a lasting peace.

His remarks came three days after a tense White House meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, which resulted in heated exchanges.

In a series of statements, Zelenskyy underscored the urgency of diplomatic initiatives and the need for continued American backing.

Zelenskyy’s comments followed Trump’s expression of frustration with Ukraine, particularly after an Associated Press report quoted Zelenskyy stating that the war’s end remained “very, very far away.”

Over the weekend, the Ukrainian leader attended a summit with European allies focused on developing a peace strategy—just days after the White House dispute.

“It is essential that we engage in meaningful diplomacy to end this war as soon as possible,” Zelenskyy wrote on X. “We are working closely with the U.S. and our European partners and deeply hope for continued American support on the path to peace.”

UKRAINE STRESSES STRONG U.S TIES AMID TENSIONS
Despite the friction in Washington, Zelenskyy has sought to reaffirm Ukraine’s strong relationship with the U.S., expressing confidence that the two nations can mend any differences.

On Monday, Ukraine’s parliament echoed this sentiment, releasing a statement that described Trump’s role in peace efforts as “decisive.”

Following a call with the leaders of the Baltic states—key supporters of Ukraine who were absent from a recent European summit—Zelenskyy reiterated the importance of international unity.

“Together, we must develop a concrete action plan to secure real security guarantees,” he wrote on Telegram. “Unity with our partners is essential for ending the war and ensuring lasting peace. Ukraine, Europe, and the U.S.—only together can we restore security for our people.”

SECURITY GUARANTEES KEY TO LASTING STABILITY
In his nightly address, Zelenskyy pointed to the lack of security assurances as a key factor behind both Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion and the 2014 separatist uprising in eastern Ukraine.

“Right now, due to the absence of clear security guarantees, Russia is prolonging this war. The entire world sees and acknowledges this,” he said.

Zelenskyy called for intensified diplomatic efforts, urging all parties to collaborate on a sustainable peace framework. “Ukraine, all of Europe, and America—together we can secure decades of stability. To achieve this, we must work constructively, support each other’s proposals, and accelerate diplomatic efforts to end the war,” he stated.

Ukraine’s parliament reinforced this stance with its statement, emphasizing that Trump’s peacekeeping role remains critical in achieving a resolution to the conflict.
