The Trump’s support for PH in WPS is expected to persist as the Philippines remains confident in U.S. assistance amid escalating tensions with China.

According to Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Jose Romualdez, who recently met with U.S. diplomatic, defense, and congressional officials, support for military patrols in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) is likely to continue.

The ambassador anticipates that the U.S. will further strengthen the Philippine military as part of efforts to counter China’s growing influence in the disputed waters.

Romualdez also mentioned that arrangements are being made for a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which could take place once their schedules align.

Meanwhile, recent discussions between Philippine and U.S. defense officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong bilateral relations.

Last month, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo during the Munich Security Conference in Germany, where both officials reinforced U.S.-Philippines ties and explored ways to deepen the alliance.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed that the discussions focused on continued coordination to counter China’s destabilizing actions in WPS, as well as expanding economic cooperation in infrastructure, critical minerals, information technology, energy, and civil nuclear projects.
