The Chinese spies’ donations to PNP are now under investigation following Malacañang’s directive to verify reports on alleged contributions from foreign groups.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed that the government wants to see the full details of reports claiming that suspected Chinese spies donated motorcycles to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Officials aim to determine whether the donations were made in good faith.

Castro clarified that accepting donations is not inherently problematic, citing previous instances such as Vice President Sara Duterte’s receipt of ambulances for Davao City residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, she stressed that if donations serve other motives, an investigation is necessary to prevent similar incidents and ensure that no government agency is exploited for external interests.

Castro assured that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will not allow the PNP to be influenced by benefactors at the expense of its duty to the nation.

In response to the controversy, PNP Chief Rommel Marbil has already initiated an internal investigation into the matter.
