BARMM Expresses Gratitude for Japan and UN WFP’s P290-M Climate-Resilient Livelihood Project

The climate-resilient livelihood project funded by Japan and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has received appreciation from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The region welcomed the initiative, which will continue for the coming years, as it provides significant assistance to families in affected communities.

Chief Hasna Abubakar-Adam of the Office of the Director General – Bangsamoro Planning and Development expressed gratitude after the formal signing of the agreement between the UN WFP and the Embassy of Japan.

The project aims to support and develop Bangsamoro communities while mitigating the adverse effects of climate change in the region.

“We express our gratitude to the embassy of Japan and the World Food Programme for their steadfast dedication to the Bangsamoro region. Since 2006, Japan has been our genuine ally in the pursuit of peace, offering support in infrastructure development, capacity enhancement, and livelihood opportunity,” said Chief Hasna Abubakar-Adam of the Office of the Director General – Bangsamoro Planning and Development.

“Also, the World Food Programme has been our long-standing partner, promoting food security and nutrition, and climate resiliency,” she added.

Deputy Presidential Adviser Senior Undersecretary Isidro L. Purisima of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity stated that the project is expected to assist 36,000 farmers and fisherfolk in Bangsamoro communities.

He also highlighted that the initiative will provide much-needed localized weather information directly to local communities.

“Under the partnership we are reinforcing today, the government of Japan and the World Food Programme have committed to support more than 36,000 smallholder farmers, fisherfolks, and the commissioned combatant in the Bangsamoro,” said Deputy Presidential Adviser Senior Undersecretary Isidro L. Purisima.
