2 Russian Divers Die in Batangas, One Loses Arm in Suspected Shark Attack

MANILA – Two foreign tourists lost their lives while scuba diving off Verde Island in Batangas, a popular dive destination south of Manila, on Thursday, according to local authorities.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed that the victims were part of a group of seven tourists exploring the island’s rich marine biodiversity when a strong underwater current separated them from the group.

One diver was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival, while the other’s body was later recovered by rescuers.

Authorities are still investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the tragedy. Verde Island is renowned for its vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life, attracting divers from around the world.
