La Niña Expected to Lower Power Demand in 2025, Says DOE

The Department of Energy (DOE) expects a decrease in power demand this year due to the onset of La Niña.

According to DOE Secretary Rafael Lotilla, the cooler weather brought by the phenomenon may lead to lower electricity consumption.

The agency anticipates reduced usage of cooling appliances such as air conditioning units, which typically drive up demand.

Last year, the DOE recorded a thinning power supply due to the prolonged El Niño that affected large parts of the country.

Despite the expected decline in demand, Secretary Lotilla assured that the DOE remains vigilant in monitoring the country’s power supply and reserves.

He also emphasized the need to develop more renewable energy sources, particularly solar power plants, which can be constructed more quickly.

As the summer season approaches, the DOE assures the public that there will be sufficient electricity supply to meet consumer demand.
