Palawan and Basilan are on high alert as China launches its Long March 8A rocket today, February 11, from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in Hainan, China.
According to the Philippine Space Agency, the launch is scheduled between 9:22 a.m. and 10:16 a.m.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that the rocket launch was initially set for January 25 but was postponed to today.
China has designated three drop zones where debris from the rocket is expected to fall, with the first zone approximately 85 nautical miles from Rozul Reef.
The second drop zone is about 40 nautical miles from Puerto Princesa, Palawan, while the third is 33 nautical miles from Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan.
The Philippine Space Agency has advised the public not to approach or collect any debris from the rocket, as it may contain toxic chemicals.
Authorities urged residents to immediately report any debris sightings to local officials and recommended the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if necessary.
Residents in affected areas have also been advised to stay vigilant for their safety.
