Kuwait deployment ban remains under review by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) as officials assess calls for stricter labor policies in the Gulf nation.
According to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, further discussions will be held between the Philippines and Kuwait to ensure diplomatic respect and cooperation.
However, the department is set to intensify its strict deployment restrictions for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), particularly domestic helpers.
Cacdac emphasized the need for tighter monitoring of OFWs’ working conditions to safeguard their welfare.
“We want tighter monitoring measures in so far as domestic worker deployments are concerned, and with respect to both Saudi and Kuwait, there will be further talks with both our government counterparts in those countries,” said Cacdac.
To reinforce worker protection, the DMW plans to implement a ‘Know Your Employer’ approach, requiring applicants to be fully informed about their employers before leaving the country.
This policy will apply not only to Kuwait but also to other nations employing Filipino workers.
“That will be applied to all other countries, especially for domestic workers, ensuring they know their employer before departing the Philippines,” Cacdac added.
Meanwhile, the case of Jenny Alvarado, the OFW who recently died in Kuwait, remains unresolved.
Cacdac stated that the department is still awaiting the National Bureau of Investigation’s findings while preparing to file legal action against her employer.
