COTABATO CITY – A member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) and a farmer were killed in separate shooting incidents in Maguindanao del Sur on Tuesday, January 28.
Brig. Gen. Romeo Juan Macapaz, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), confirmed on Wednesday, January 29, that the first victim was 51-year-old Moro farmer Nasser Andal Mohamad.
Mohamad was driving a “kuliglig,” a motorized farm vehicle, along a rural road in Barangay Kaya-Kaya, Datu Abdullah Sangki, when unidentified gunmen attacked him.
He was killed instantly, while the assailants fled the scene, according to barangay officials.
Shortly after, another fatal shooting occurred in the town of Buluan, the capital of Maguindanao del Sur. The victim, identified as 54-year-old CAFGU member Esmail Kadin Uyag, was shot while sitting near a roadside store.
Reports from the Buluan Municipal Police Station and the Maguindanao del Sur Provincial Police Office revealed that Uyag was attacked by gunmen who arrived in a white minivan.
He was rushed to Buluan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities are now conducting an investigation, with local officials assisting in efforts to identify the perpetrators behind both attacks.
