The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has unveiled a P100,000 commemorative banknote to mark National Heroes Day, released specifically for collectors on Monday.

According to BSP, these commemorative bills are part of their numismatic collection, which includes coins and printed currency that hold historical significance.

The banknotes were first issued in 1998, coinciding with the centennial celebration of Philippine Independence.

The front of the bill features the iconic “Sigaw ng Himagsikan” led by Katipunan hero Andres Bonifacio.

The reverse side depicts the historic proclamation of Philippine Independence by General Emilio Aguinaldo on June 12, 1898, in Kawit, Cavite.

Only 1,000 pieces of these limited-edition banknotes were printed, making them a highly sought-after item among collectors.

Commemorative banknotes issued by the BSP are typically released to celebrate significant national events, anniversaries, or historical figures.

These limited-edition bills are often part of a broader effort to preserve and promote the Philippines’ rich history and cultural heritage.

In the past, the BSP has issued similar commemorative bills to mark milestones such as the country’s independence, the founding of key institutions, or the anniversaries of historic events.

These banknotes are legal tender, though they are primarily intended for collectors and are rarely circulated.
