MALACAÑANG expressed optimism on Monday that the “National Rally for Peace” organized by Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) would help address and bring clarity to pressing national issues.
In a statement, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin emphasized that the right to peaceful assembly is a fundamental right protected under the 1987 Constitution, valued by Filipinos, and upheld by the Marcos administration.
“These assemblies are part of the national dialogue we should have as a people to achieve clarity and consensus on issues that affect our future,” Bersamin said.
He expressed confidence that the rally, scheduled to take place in 13 areas across the country, would proceed peacefully and in an orderly manner.
“We have no doubt that today’s gatherings will be peaceful, orderly, and meaningful,” Bersamin added.
He also underscored the importance of the event in helping the public understand the challenges the nation is facing and in promoting unity.
“We hope that the opinions expressed today will shed light on our country’s issues and lead us closer to the unity we all aspire for,” he said.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the rally, Bersamin directed relevant government agencies to provide support when needed, including maintaining peace and order, managing traffic, and offering emergency health services.
The rally began early Monday and saw participants arriving at various venues, including the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, as early as Sunday evening.
According to INC, the rally also aims to show support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s stance against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, despite political differences.
Marcos earlier stated that the impeachment complaints filed against Duterte would not benefit anyone. Three impeachment complaints have been lodged against the Vice President, who has expressed her willingness to face them.
“I’m okay with the impeachment case because it only targets me. It won’t involve my staff at the Office of the Vice President or my former colleagues at the Department of Education. I can finally address the accusations against me,” Duterte said.
