A 47-year-old man was killed, and another was injured in a collision involving a motorcycle and a kulong-kulong in Brgy. Pinili, Abulug.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Alexis Gipolio, Senior investigator from PNP Abulug, identified the victim as Joel Tango, 47.
The suspect has been identified as Jaymark Balubar, 26, a lending collector and a resident of Pamplona.
According to the investigation, Balubar was returning to Pamplona from Junction Luna on his motorcycle, while Tango was heading from Pamplona to Ballesteros in his Kulong-kulong.
As the two vehicles were traveling along the national highway in the area, Balubar noticed that Tango was encroaching into his lane.
In an attempt to avoid a collision, Balubar swerved back into his proper lane but ended up crossing into the opposite lane, where the two vehicles collided.
Balubar’s motorcycle directly struck Tango’s kulong-kulong.
The force of the impact caused Tango to be thrown seven meters away, where he hit his head on the concrete road, resulting in his immediate death. Balubar was thrown three meters away.
Both individuals were rushed to the hospital, but Tango was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Balubar lost two fingers due to the accident.
It was later revealed that the victim was driving under the influence at the time of the accident.
Currently, the suspect and the victim’s family have reached an agreement not to file any charges.
Instead, the suspect will cover the expenses for the victim’s funeral and the repair of the damaged motorcycle.
