Retired Police Officer Ambushed and Killed; Wife Survives

A retired police officer was ambushed and killed in Barangay Simbo, Purok 4, Tupi, South Cotabato, on Monday evening.

Police Lieutenant Richard Ho, Deputy Chief of Police of Tupi PNP, confirmed the incident involving Retired SPO3 Teodorico Babao Bastan, 73, a resident of Barangay Datal Bob, T’Boli, South Cotabato.

Bastan and his wife were on their way home on a motorcycle after shopping when two suspects on another motorcycle intercepted them.

The assailants initially shot Bastan, who managed to stand after the first gunfire, but he was shot again multiple times to ensure his death, sustaining three gunshot wounds to various parts of his body.

The victim’s wife survived the attack and was unharmed during the ambush.

Investigators believe the suspects had been monitoring Bastan’s daily activities and were familiar with his routine.

The Tupi PNP is actively investigating the motive behind the killing and is working to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the crime.
