The House Appropriations Committee will conduct an investigation into intelligence funds amid the escape of former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo to the Philippines and other unresolved high-profile cases.
The inquiry will also examine ongoing investigations involving accused sex offender and human trafficker KOJC leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gerald Bantag.
In a statement, Appropriations Committee and Ako Bicol party-list Representative Elizaldy Co emphasized that they will thoroughly review the allocation and use of intelligence funds.
He also noted that Guo’s escape despite an immigration lookout bulletin is a significant concern.
Quiboloy and Bantag, who have yet to be apprehended, will also be scrutinized.
The lawmaker stressed the need to evaluate how intelligence funds are utilized to prevent similar failures in the future.
The House panel’s decision follows Guo’s escape to the country, who is linked to crimes at a POGO hub in her hometown of Bamban.
Meanwhile, police are currently raiding the KOJC compound in Davao City to arrest the fugitive Quiboloy.
The whereabouts of former BuCor chief Bantag, who is wanted for allegedly masterminding the murder of journalist Percy Lapid, are still being pursued.
