On Saturday, Kanlaon Volcano released 6,367 tons of volcanic sulfur dioxide, marking it as the third-highest SO2 emission of 2024, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

SO2 fumes have been reported in several barangays in Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Kanlaon also produced 700-meter steam-rich plumes due to strong degassing activity from the summit crater.

PHIVOLCS also recorded an average of nine volcanic earthquakes per day since the eruption, along with slow but continuous inflation and pressurization of the volcano since March 2022.

Kanlaon is under Alert Level 2, which indicates a high likelihood of an eruption or dangerous magmatic activity from the summit crater.

The public is advised to stay away from the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and remain vigilant to potential volcanic hazards.
