Limay, Bataan—Around 750 fishermen in Limay, Bataan, have received family food packs from Senator Lito Lapid, in response to the devastating impact of the recent oil spill on the province’s coastal communities.

In his message, Senator Lapid emphasized the importance of providing immediate assistance to the fishermen affected by the oil spill from a sunken vessel near Lamao Point in Limay.

He expressed hope that the food packs would help the families of the fishermen meet their basic needs during this difficult time.

The oil spill incident began on July 25, when the MT Terranova, carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel, sank off the coast of Lamao Point. The spill has severely disrupted the livelihoods of local fishermen, prompting Bataan Governor Joet Garcia to declare a state of calamity on August 6.

The declaration came after the sinking of three oil tankers, which together affected approximately 17,000 fishermen and left many without a source of income.

In addition to the fishermen, nearly 15,000 families have also been reported as victims of the oil spill by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
