Mary Jane Veloso expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Indonesian leader Prabowo Subianto, and all those who helped facilitate her return to the Philippines after 14 years of imprisonment in Indonesia.

Veloso arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Wednesday evening alongside officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) led by Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega.

She shared that her first wish upon returning to the Philippines is to attend a church service.

Veloso is scheduled to undergo a five-day quarantine at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City upon her arrival on Wednesday morning.

The 39-year-old was initially sentenced to death in Indonesia in 2010 after being caught with 2.6 kilograms of heroin.

Her execution was temporarily suspended in 2015 following the intervention of then-President Joko Widodo.

Last November, an agreement between the Philippines and Indonesia paved the way for Veloso’s transfer back to the country.
