19-Year-Old Student Shot After Confrontation in Dingras, Ilocos Norte

A 19-year-old student was shot on Binaratan Road in Brgy. Cali, Dingras, Ilocos Norte, following a confrontation with an unidentified suspect.

The victim was identified as John Restie Decamos y Mallari, a resident of Sitio Malasin, Brgy. Lanas in Dingras.

According to the Dingras Municipal Police Station, Decamos was on a motorcycle with another student en route to a gas station.

The incident began when the suspect confronted Decamos, questioning him about why he was staring, to which the victim replied that it was the suspect looking at him.

After refueling, the victim proceeded southbound toward Brgy. Cali, where the suspect followed him.

The suspect fired a single shot, hitting Decamos on the right shoulder before fleeing in an unknown direction.

The victim was rushed to Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital in Laoag City for immediate treatment.

Recovered at the scene were a deformed .45 caliber cartridge, a bullet cap, a cellphone, four live .45 caliber bullets, three fired cartridge cases, and one fired bullet.

The suspect remains at large as authorities continue their investigation.
