Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel stated there is no assurance that judges in the impeachment trial will deliver a fair decision.

The statement comes as the House prepares an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte for alleged betrayal of public trust, bribery, and crimes like plunder.

Pimentel emphasized that public vigilance and interest are crucial to ensuring accountability in the impeachment process.

He noted that if the public remains indifferent, senator-judges could act without scrutiny and decide the case as they see fit.

While judges can freely interpret the evidence and render their decision, Pimentel urged respect for the outcome, regardless of public opinion.

He added that dissatisfied citizens could hold senators accountable during the next election.

Pimentel also acknowledged that each senator-judge will independently decide on the case and may seek public opinion through surveys.

As for his decision, Pimentel assured that his judgment would rely solely on the evidence presented.
