Fisherman rescued after being stranded at sea for 2 Days in Tawi-Tawi

A 40-year-old fisherman was rescued on Wednesday after being stranded at sea for two days near Andulingan Island in Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi, the Philippine Navy reported on Friday.

The fisherman, identified as Roco Sambas from Barangay Tandu Banak in Sibutu, had been fishing near Sibutu Island on Monday when his boat capsized.

After the accident, he was left clinging to a piece of polystyrene foam in the open water.

On Wednesday morning, the crew of the Philippine Navy’s BRP Jose Loor Sr. spotted Sambas about 6.4 nautical miles north of Andulingan Island.

At 6:25 AM, the ship’s crew successfully rescued him by throwing a life ring and pulling him aboard.

The Navy team provided Sambas with dry clothes, hot food, and coffee, and treated him for minor injuries. He is now in stable condition.
