The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers, making it relatively shallow.

Intensity 4 was felt in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, causing alarm among residents but with no immediate reports of injuries.

Authorities are currently assessing the damage in affected areas, including possible impacts on infrastructure and residential buildings.

Earthquakes like this can cause varying effects depending on their origin and depth, ranging from minor ground shaking to structural damage and landslides.

Tectonic earthquakes, like the one in Bangui, are caused by the movement of Earth’s plates, often resulting in widespread shaking.

If shallow and powerful enough, these quakes can lead to significant damage in areas near the epicenter, especially in poorly built structures.

PHIVOLCS reminds the public to remain vigilant and adhere to earthquake preparedness measures to minimize risks during aftershocks.
