Chelsea Manalo, representing the Philippines, won the prestigious National Costume Award at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant.
The announcement revealed Manalo as the first-place winner, followed by Chile’s Emilia Dides in second and Vietnam’s Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen in third.
According to the Miss Universe organization, the National Costume segment allows contestants to share the story, traditions, and values of their respective countries.
Manalo’s winning costume, titled “Hiraya,” emphasized the rich religious heritage of the Philippines.
Designed by Manny Halasan, the costume featured patterns inspired by Islamic art, the traditional Puni craft of Bulacan, and the image of Our Lady of Antipolo.
The elaborate headpiece showcased a boat symbolizing the Galleon Trade, representing the historical trade connection between Manila and Mexico.
Miss Universe Philippines expressed gratitude to fans who voted and supported Chelsea’s journey, celebrating this achievement on their official social media page.
Chelsea Manalo’s Miss Universe journey concluded in the Top 30, but she was also crowned the first-ever Miss Universe Asia.
This victory marks back-to-back National Costume wins for the Philippines, following Michelle Dee’s triumph in the 2023 edition of Miss Universe.
