MANILA — Supporters of Vice President Sara Duterte gathered at the EDSA Shrine Wednesday morning, continuing their show of support for the embattled official.

The group spent the night at the shrine, praying and voicing concerns, including calls for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to address rising food prices and corruption issues.

The event, which began Tuesday, ended early Wednesday.

According to the police, around 300 supporters had assembled at the shrine following Duterte’s comments about discussing a potential plot to assassinate the First Couple and Speaker Martin Romualdez, should she be killed.

Malacañang has labeled the remarks as an “active threat.”

The rector of the EDSA Shrine had earlier reminded attendees to maintain proper decorum and refrain from eating, drinking, carrying signs, making noise, or engaging in other disruptive behavior during the gathering.

By 6 a.m. Wednesday, the crowd had dwindled, but the Philippine National Police reported that the event remained peaceful.

Some supporters indicated that the three-day program would continue until Thursday, with sponsors providing bottled water and packed meals for those attending.
