Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero expressed deep concern over Vice President Sara Duterte’s remarks about contracting an assassin to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in case of harm to her.
Escudero described the statements as alarming and inappropriate, emphasizing that Duterte, as the second-highest official in the country, has a duty to set an example for her staff, the Filipino people, and children.
He urged Duterte’s allies to advise her against issuing harmful and divisive remarks, referencing her “kill order” directed at the President, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Escudero suggested that Duterte seek professional help if she is struggling to fulfill her duties effectively.
He further stressed that public officials should focus their energy and attention on addressing the country’s pressing problems.
The senator also called on Duterte to review her statements and actions against the President.
Duterte’s remarks came after she criticized a plan to transfer her detained chief of staff, Undersecretary Zuleika Lopez, from the House detention facility to the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.
The Vice President labeled the planned transfer as an “attempted homicide.”
