TROPICAL cyclones Nika, Ofel, and Pepito affected a total of 3,966,867 people, or 1,067,656 families according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Based on the NDRRMC’s 8 a.m. findings, impacted populations were found in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Cordillera.
Bicol had the biggest number of impacted residents (1,906,994), followed by Cagayan Valley (809,637) and Eastern Visayas (408,593).
Of the entire impacted population, 244,492 people, or 67,971 families, resided at evacuation centers, while 116,898 people, or 32,764 families, sought shelter elsewhere.
The NDRRMC recorded 12 deaths, 14 injuries, and three missing as a result of the tropical cyclones.
Nika, Ofel, and Pepito triggered flooding and landslides in the affected areas.
There was recorded damage to infrastructure of P2,712,898,584 and agriculture at P52,391,642. A total of 52,987 homes were also damaged: 43,790 partially and 9,197 completely.
Some affected localities experienced problems with power, water, and communication line services.
The NDRRMC also stated that 95 seaports had ceased operations owing to the danger of weather disturbances. Classes were suspended in 744 areas, as were work schedules in 447 areas.
Meanwhile, the following areas have proclaimed a state of calamity:
- Bangar, La Union.
- Bautista, Pangasinan.
- Quirino Province
- Santiago, Cabagan, and Tumauini, Isabela
- Baggao, Cagayan.
- Aurora Province
- Mountain Province
- Aguinaldo and Asipulo of Ifugao
According to the NDRRMC, victims have already received assistance totaling P277,621,373.
On November 11, Nika made landfall at Dilasag, Aurora, and traveled over Northern Luzon. It left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on November 12.
Ofel, on the other hand, entered PAR on November 12 and made landfall in Baggao, Cagayan, on November 14. On November 15, Ofel momentarily left PAR before re-entering.
On November 16, the tropical cyclone stopped having a direct impact on the country.
Furthermore, Pepito entered PAR on November 14 and made landfall over Panganiban, Catanduanes, on November 16, followed by Dipaculao, Aurora, on November 17. Pepito departed PAR on November 18.
