9 people reported dead during Typhoon Nika, Ofel, and Pepito — NDRRMC

THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) stated on Wednesday that nine persons were killed as a result of the tropical cyclones Nika, Ofel, and Pepito.

According to the agency’s situational report, none of the claimed deaths have been confirmed as of yet.

Super Typhoon Pepito caused a landslide at Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya, killing seven people, including an 8-year-old child.

An individual was also reportedly killed at Daet, Camarines Norte, during Pepito, however, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) later stated that the death was caused by a car accident and was not related to the cyclone.

Four people were also reported missing, with 16 others injured.

The cyclones affected almost 3 million individuals, including 820,000 families, over 34 provinces.

The three tropical cyclones displaced 442,857 people, with over 2,000 still in evacuation facilities.

The tropical storms also damaged P1.5 billion in infrastructure and P8.6 million in agriculture.

According to data released by the Department of Agriculture on Tuesday, the agricultural damage caused by successive tropical storms, from Kristine to Ofel, has exceeded P10 billion.

Nika, Ofel, and Pepito caused damage to 22,421 houses as well as 430 highways and 107 bridges around the country, based on NDRRMC’s record.
