As Russia’s invasion of Kyiv entered its 1,000th day, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his support for Ukraine on Wednesday.

Marcos noted on X (previously Twitter) that yesterday was the 1,000th day since the start of the war in Ukraine.

Recalling his June 3 meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Marcos reaffirmed the Philippines’ steadfast support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, unity, sovereignty, and independence.

“We hope that a comprehensive, equitable, and long-lasting peace can be achieved in Ukraine. We value Ukraine as a partner, and our relationship is only improving,” he continued.

According to one media outlet, during a Tuesday parliament session, Zelensky stated that Ukraine would not cede its sovereignty or give up its territorial rights. He also said that no fresh elections would be conducted until peace was established.

He stated, “At this point in the war, it is being decided who will win—us against the enemy, or the enemy against us Ukrainians… and Europeans, and everyone in the world who wants to live freely and not be subject to a dictator.”

As a home counterpoint to the “victory plan” he presented to Western supporters earlier in autumn, Zelensky laid forth a “resilience plan” for Ukraine. He said that Russia had to be forced to engage in sincere negotiations to end the war.

“Unity is the first point of our internal Resilience Plan,” he remarked.
